Senate Meeting Space Modernization

Senate is the highest academic body at Carleton University, with responsibility for governance and decisions that impact both students and faculty.  Located on the 6th floor of Robertson Hall, the Senate Room is a multi-purpose space used for monthly Senate meetings and daily classroom functions.  The original 1960’s design of the space incorporated dark wood and exposed concrete finishes, with older technology and minimal acoustic enhancements.  The Senate Room was truly in need of modernization to meet the needs of 21st century students and meeting collaboration.  Working closely with Carleton University stakeholders, this “look and feel” renovation introduced new acoustic ceilings and wall panels, brighter room colours and textures, flexible lighting and controls, the capacity for various room configurations, current audio-visual infrastructure, and the restoration of key heritage design features such as the concrete skylights and natural wood finishes.
