National and Accessible Headquarters

As the new building owner at 72 Chamberlain Avenue, Canada’s Building Trades Unions (CBTU) wanted to reflect the ideals of a national organization of construction trades. The building, to be CBTU’s Canadian Headquarters, had to be welcoming, modern and accessible to all. The project was completed with Taplen Construction in two phases: as an interior fit-up of all floors with new infrastructure, furniture and finishes; and a new addition to incorporate an entrance lobby, stair, and a passenger elevator. The site, located in a dense, central Ottawa streetscape, was restricted in available space, and required careful planning for City of Ottawa minor variance approval. The addition was designed with complimentary exterior materials, including brick, aluminum composite panels and glazed curtainwall.
